Crowns

A dental crown is a type of dental restoration that completely covers or “caps” a tooth. It’s used to restore a tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often recommended when a tooth is:

  • Severely decayed or has a large filling

  • Cracked or broken

  • Weakened after a root canal

  • Misshapen or discolored

How it works:

  1. Preparation: The dentist reshapes the tooth so the crown can fit over it.

  2. Impression: A mold of your tooth is made to create a custom crown.

  3. Placement: The crown is cemented over the tooth, fully covering it.

Materials used:

  • Porcelain or ceramic: Looks like natural teeth.

  • Metal alloys: Very strong, often used for back teeth.

  • Porcelain fused to metal: Combines strength and appearance.

  • Zirconia: Very strong and tooth-colored.
